MADWOMAN by CHELSEA BIEKER follows the life of Clove, wife and mother of two, with a spending problem and a past she has hidden from everyone in her life.
One day, a letter arrives in the mail from someone in her past that threatens to unravel her life as she knows it.
The narrative began slowly, setting the stage for the mental state of the main character. It only picked up within the last fifty pages, where some of the twists were expected and others were shocking.
The descriptions of the main character were phenomenal, as the reader is able to understand the motivations and trauma that have led her to this moment in her life.
The other characters fell flat or felt unrealistic. Their reactions or motivations didn’t coincide with the events occurring, in my opinion.
This isn’t the typical fiction book that I read, but I wanted a book that went into the grief that a daughter had for the loss of her mother. I do think it touched on this emotion well and showed the mental trials of those who endure abuse.
